Beech Springs Farm
Jayne Shord
Gettysburg, PA
Beech Springs Farm is a small family-owned farm, located 8 miles west of Gettysburg, PA. The farm’s history can be traced to the mid 1700’s, when the original warrant was issued by the state of Pennsylvania. Through the years, the farm has seen many changes, but today it is being lovingly restored by its owners, Jayne and Bill Shord.
Jayne began gardening at the age of nine, when she persuaded her father to till up a section of the family farm in Pittsburgh for a garden. When the garden produced more than the family could handle, she pulled her little red wagon through town selling her vegetables.
It took awhile, but Jayne finally found her way back to “her roots,” so to speak. Her love of good food, grown without pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones or any other artificial ingredients, as well as a growing interest in sustainable agriculture, led her to begin gardening in earnest again when she and her husband found Beech Springs Farm. Growing heirloom varieties of Certified Naturally Grown vegetables, herbs and flowers, as well as some small fruits on a historic farm seemed like a perfect fit.
The farm is a marriage between the past and the present, utilizing modern growing techniques to grow many of the plants of yesteryear, in the most sustainable and self-sufficient manner possible.
Good food - grown for good people…. available Wednesday's at the Gettysburg Rec Park Market location.
